Since February 2008,
the City of Euless has been rated a Class 1 Public Protection Classification
from the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO). This was a two point
improvement over the 1995 Class 3 rating. In 2008, Euless was the tenth community in
the state of Texas and the 48th in the nation to achieve a Class 1
rating. The rating, established by ISO, evaluates the performance of municipal
fire suppression capabilities. The City rating schedule consists of three main
areas: receiving and handling of fire alarms, the Fire Department, and water
distribution and supply. ISO analyzes the relevant data and assigns a Public
Protection Classification, (PPCTM) — a number
from 1 to 10. Class 1 generally represents superior property fire protection,
and Class 10 indicates that the area's fire suppression program does not meet
ISO's minimum criteria.
ISO provides advisory
services and information to many insurance companies. ISO develops and
publishes policy language that many insurance companies use as the basis for
their products. All insurance policies are a contract between the homeowner and
insurance company. ISO is not a party to that contract. ISO merely evaluates the communities using
this grading schedule to help establish insurance rates based on the ability to
provide fire protection.
Based on cost of claims
per $1000 of insured property, communities in the worst classifications had
fire losses more than twice as high as the communities with the best
classifications.
According to the
National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) Fire Departments fight almost 1.7
million fires annually. In other words, every 19 seconds, a fire department
somewhere in the United States responds to a fire. Each year, fire kills more Americans than all
natural disasters combined.
Fire Chief Wes Rhodes and the Euless Firefighters, just one more reason to take pride in FabEuless.
